Pay Transparency: Should Salary Be a Secret?

New research reveals pay transparency is a topic employers can’t ignore.

A new Visier survey found that today’s job seekers and employees overwhelmingly prefer pay transparency—and there are advantages for employers who provide the benefit. Employers have an opportunity to cultivate trust and improve retention within their workforce, however, it appears there’s room for improvement. 

Key findings from this survey include: 
  • Half of the 1,000 surveyed respondents (50%) have withdrawn themselves from consideration during a job interview or application processes because the pay that was revealed did not match their expectations. 
  • 41% of respondents have had a negative experience discussing pay with an employer. 
  • The majority of employees (68%) say they would switch employers for greater pay transparency—even if pay was the same.
